|
|
Anybody point me in the right direction for gettin some better milage? Running a 2000 Ford F-350 4X4 7.3 six speed. pulling 46 ft flat deck with 8 ft deck over gooseneck. best milage ive seen is 10.6 when i was empty. saw about 6 ish with 8100 lbs on coming through Maryland (up one hill and down another) Does this sound about right. Ive got a airaid intake and superchips programmer. thinkin of changing programers. definatly gonna ditch the muffler when i get home from New Jersey.

| i would check your fuel filter, and make sure you don't have an injector or 2 going bad. how fast were you driving? on my truck with 3.73 gears the sweet spot seems to be about 60mph. anything over that and my mileage drops fast. i have a 1999 f250 with a 7.3 auto and get about 14 with my empty 36' trailer and around 11 with 2 cars on it and i thought that was bad! |

I've run my ford over 200,000 and 8 is a good overall average .
I have gotten as low as 4mpg and high as 11.3 with a trailer on .
I don't change my fuelm filter but about ever 5th or 6th oil change .
Air filter will give you more trouble watch your filter minder . I have cheap air filters last 6000 and most about 12000 . The wix air filter is the best it goes up to 25000 . Put you some lucas in your fuel too .

I believe the deck on top is a wind drag. I hate this trailer. load weighs 8100 lbs. heaviest foam ive ever hauled. And by the way this load had to be tarped and if it werent for this forum id never have gotten that done. TARPING SUCKS WITH CHEAP TARPS!!! my wal-mart tarp is shot but oh well. |

Yes the deck on the neck makes a huge difference in mileage. I purchased a trailer just like this new and as soon as I got it home I cut the deck over the neck off and gained 2 mpg. Cut it off and toss it, you won't be dissapointed. If it was lower profile it would be a money maker but sitting up high like that it just doesn't work.
That trailer looks very heavy. Have you dropped it on a scale while it's empty? What brand trailer is it? _________________ Gary @ M&H Logistics |

I buy the tarps at harbor frieght that are cheap . Nail them to the trailer floor with pallet wood and go . I try and not tarp I think it sucks too .
If it's sunny I will take off without tarping . CH tries to sell tarping just for money . I want tarp something thats already rusty I just take pictures and go . I had one load that was supposed to tarp shipper laughed it was galvanized matel that was sitting outside in the mud and rain . I do have a trap for "show" purposes .
