Florida over length permit......Here's the scoop.
http://www.fdotmaint.com/permit/ Go to this site. You want a "blanket permit".
Fill it out online. You are considered a straight truck w/ trailer.
On the explanation line put: "Over length trailer".
Fill out all of the yellow spaces. (you'll see when you get there).
When filling out the dimension part, put down your maximum height your trailer will be WITH cargo.
SUBMIT
They will call you with any questions. You will receive an email that it has been approved with a link on how to pay for it. $20.00
Here is the kicker, do it NOW. They have to send you the original (stamped), no copies, emails, faxes. The original has to be in your truck or it's ticket time.
Any questions let me know.

How long does it take to get the permit once you've ordered it?

Well that's a good question Gary. That would depend if you do it right the first time or the fifth time.
They say two days for approval and then they have to mail it to you once you pay. Figure a week. ?????

Not even a week. The scoop is you can also call and get it done.
Technically its 5 bucks for a fax permit for 3days. while you get charged 5 dollars also for fax making it 10 bucks.
Or get the year permit thats mailed in a yellow copy within a week for 20 bucks.

If you are strictly hauling autos couldn't you simply fill in 'Autos hauled on auto transport'? Assuming you have a fifth wheel set up on a C&C (no pick up bed).

Yeah, I was talking about the yearly permit. Not the trip permit.

Not sure on that one. The girl I spoke with wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. That is why I'm in route to Florida waiting on my faxed permit, only to find out yesterday that they can't fax the yearly permit, only the trip.
AND... Now that they have sent it out, they cannot send another copy anywhere. I have to re-apply. Gotta love $5.75 an hour workers.
