Any suggestions on how to get off loaded quick!!

Sitting at receivers here in Doral, FL for coming up on 2 hours..  Broker seems stumped for some reason, as does the difficult to understand south FL locals..

Loaded with 2 17' wrecker rollbacks & subframes..  8,000lbs total..

They say they requested a dock high trailer but I'm obviously not one.  No ramps or adjustable dock to get the forklift down to my height.

How the hell can I get this moving to get emptied out & on with life..

Have the broker send a dock high wrecker with a forklift,? find another trucking company with a yard & equipment?  Never had this happen, but funny enough this is the 2nd time in 24hours..  Sat & waited 4hours yesterday for a crane to unload a 8500lb chiller..

Any suggestions, please help..

You can't block up to reach dock height?

Sounds like the Broker dropped the ball. That is if the Shipper/receiver truly requested a dock hieght trailer??? Either way, tell the Broker that you want detention pay and a revised rate confirmation showing it. Keep track of your time.

Block it up, man what a friggin brain fart..  Guess the 95 heat & 98% humidity was really frying my brain.. That probably would have worked, but this was a concrete jungle & I only carry 4--4x4's.  Not a piece of dunnage in sight other than mine.  Damn dock was 60" high, & I'm 33"..  Would have needed quite a few more boards..

Was at International Shipping, & they apparently don't get along well with any of the neighboring shops.  After 4 hours the broker was able to persuade one of them to borrow a forklift to get me emptied out..

Had me pretty upset though.  Seemed for the first 2 hours or so, everyone I spoke to just kept say'n "Jon's working on it."  Talk to Jon, & he says "Joel should be work'n it out for you."  Then Joel says " oh yes, Holly's got you covered."  So on & so on it went.  Nobody can take responsibility for anything, bunch of bums out here..

As soon as you mention you've hit the 2 hour mark & the detention pay window is closing in fast all of a sudden the communication starts to clear up real quick.

Broker & shipper both dropped the ball.  Dude at International (consignee) showed me e-mails to the shipper that clearly stated must be sent on DOCK HIGH EQUIPMENT!!  Shipper then claimed that she informed the broker of this requirement.  Get this, the shipper actually came out while I was securing the load & took like a dozen photos.  Even wished me a safe trip!!  Not a word about the low trailer though..  Broker claimed this was the first he had heard of dock high..

At least it's done & over with now.  Not sure if they are supposed to pay on the full, half, or quarter hour.  Broker said first 2hours are free.  I was there for 4:25.  The revised rate con came with an extra $100 on it.  Paid for 2hours of detention, & lost a nice load that would've got me 16 miles from my doorstep..

Man,that sucks.Good thing you got unloaded that day.Detention time you have got to love it,not. Its my never ending battle with brokers. Some don't pay, others pay too little, and you always end up losing another load or being late to one.And that whole two hour free thing, who came up with that? To me that applies more to vans, who always have to wait a long time to load and unload. Is there away around this Gary? Or at least to make them pay for the detention time?

PS:did you try the Cuban food while you were down there?

Right on, who the hell came up with the 2 hour thing..?  A real load of carp in my opinion.  Not to mention you have to make at least 3 full hours before you see a nickle..  Atleast in my experience so far.

Example, I've been some places 2hours & 50mins in & out times.  But since I didn't make it to hour 3, they don't pay the first $50.  And when you do get any $, how is $50 for 3hours of my time even considered adequate compensation..?  Less than $17 per hour to tie me & my equipment up for 3hours in the stifling heat.!!  Ridiculous!!  Ok, rant over..  For now...

Cuban food, no not this time.  I was there a couple months back & had some kick ass  beef & pork empanadas.  Great stuff.  There was a Cuban ice cream truck that came by & I got a dog & chocolate ice cream..
