I currently have an 11 Cummins 4500, 11.5' flatbed, a 37' trailer..that measures 37'8" to furthest point, and a 40' trailer.   Needless to say I'm def over 65'. I also have a front bumper on the truck.  Depending on where the trooper measures from I'm either 8"-16" over on the short trailer.  Problem is I am a private carrier, do not haul for hire.  I own everything I haul, most all of it is AG related, and some is a little bit of a gray area.  Id rather not pull the bed because I do use the truck a lot not hooked to a trailer...also I'm afraid pulling the bed will attract more eyes and pull me over even more.  I'm located in Texas.  Appears like I'll need to get my dot stuff too, based on a trooper that pulled me over 2 days ago... unavoidable.  I have a CDL already.  I've been hauling the 40' trailer for 10 years, and 6 of those years with this same truck...first time had this issue.  Any thoughts?  Also if I get my dot stuff because it's private use, is insurance any different, and shouldn't need the MC #  correct?  Thanks for the help.

My trailers are farm tagged, truck is not.  I haul anything from hay, skid steer, and telehandler on these trailers.  No exemptions on ag length other than combines and combine heads.   So right now I'm leaning towards an attorney, getting truck farm tagged...it has a hydraulic bale bed right now and just keep pushing it to see what happens.  But this guy said I need dot...I think cause that stuff is a gray area.  But the length isn't something I could talk anyone out of it's black and white for sure.  I'm curious those of you that have had a bed then removed it...did you get pulled over and checked out more with the bed or without?  I want to keep the bed because it's just another thing that's AG related that they can verify it's use etc.
